January 2008 Order Confirmation

Dear Alibris Sellers,
Happy New Year from Alibris! We have added an optional column to our EDI-Lite application that will facilitate the transfer of delivery confirmation information for the orders within your status files. The tab-delimited status files sent by EDI-Lite sellers (.sta) previously had just 2 columns: (1) Order/PN Number, and (2) Status.
The optional 3rd column contains the carrier, padded out to a 5-character length with underbars: "UPS__", "USPS_", “DHL__” or "FEDEX", followed by the delivery confirmation number. These four carriers are the only ones supported at this time. Therefore, if the delivery confirmation does not start with one of the 4 strings above, it will not be processed. Below is an example of how a status file would appear using the new third column:

Since using delivery confirmation is optional, you can continue to send files in the old format with 2 columns. If you use the new format with 3 columns, you can use the 3rd column for none of the orders in the file, all orders, or any number in between, and you can combine the delivery confirmation info with any status code (SH, CN, or RF--although in practice you will probably send delivery confirmation info exclusively for shipped orders).
If you want to send delivery confirmation numbers, you can either include the code and number when you initially send status for the order, or you can first send status without the delivery confirmation info to notify Alibris of the shipment, and then send status again with the delivery confirmation included.
We hope you find this new option useful, and encourage you to use it as often as possible. We believe being able to log the delivery confirmation number with the order detail will reduce customer inquiries, as well as provide faster and more complete service to our shared customers.
