Entering New Items
From MediaSell
Here is the preferred process for entering new items:
- Enter a batch of books on the "Inventory Input" page. Enter the location, then enter or scan each ISBN. (You can do condition there or leave it for later).
- Go to Condition/price page. by default it will only show you items that are not priced. It will also show you competitive prices from Amazon.com so you can easily choose your price. You can click on a competitive price to beat that price by $0.05. You can also enter comments about the item at this time.
After price and conditions have been entered for the items, they will be automatically uploaded to your active marketplaces.
[edit] Non-Catalog Items
- If you import/add an item using the ISBN/UPC/EAN (Product ID) and the Product ID doesn't exist in Amazon's catalog, the item will be converted to a "non-catalog" item. You will notice that the ISBN field will auto-fill with a string of characters beginning with "ZZ" and you will receive the following message:
Item not yet in our database. It will take a few minutes to an hour to retrieve title information. The ISBN will be restored at that point.
We will attempt to retrieve the information from Amazon. If FillZ can't find the information, the item will remain as "Non-catalog." You should manually add as much information as possible. To be eligible for conversion to the Amazon Marketplace the following fields are required:
- Title
- Author
- Media
- Publisher
- **Publication Date
- We don't have a dedicated field for Publication Date yet, so you will want to add it to the "Additional Attributes" field. It should appear exactly like this:
PBYR|1982
- Occasionally, you may add an item that DOES exist in Amazon's catalog, but is still converted to "Non-catalog" in FillZ. This means that this item is unique to our database (no other seller has ever added the item). Your item should be updated with the correct bibliographic information within an hour.
[edit] "ZZ" Listings
- If you are scrolling through your inventory, you may notice that there are 3 different "ZZ" prefixes:
- ZZ0 indicates that this item was imported as a "Non-Catalog" item and is not eligible for conversion.
- ZZX and ZZU are eligible for conversion.
